Publication of a book on agricultural policies

The book entitled "Politiques agricoles. Théories, histoires, réformes, expériences" (or “Agricultural policies. Theories, histories, reforms, experiences”), to which several SMART members contributed, has just been published by Classiques Garnier.

Agricultural policies have always been the subject of theoretical and political controversy. Their history alternates between the legitimacy of intervention in agricultural markets and the withdrawal of the state from these markets. Consisting of two volumes totalling over 1,200 pages, this book looks back at the complex notion of agricultural policy.

In addition to financial support from SMART and the participation of Vincent Chatellier in the coordination of the project, several SMART members contributed to this collective initiative through the following chapters:

  • La PAC et les aides directes aux exploitations agricoles en France. Une mise en perspective historique depuis 1992 et des réflexions pour l’après 2024 (The CAP and direct farm subsidies in France. A historical perspective since 1992 and thoughts for the post-2024 period), by Vincent Chatellier, Hervé Guyomard and Laurent Piet
  • La crise des revenus agricoles et le dilemme du Samaritain (Farm income crisis and the Samaritan dilemma), by Guillaume Bagnarosa, Jean Cordier and Alexandre Gohin
  • Normes et signes de qualité dans les échanges internationaux de produits agricoles et agroalimentaires (Standards and quality labels in international trade of agricultural and food products), by Charlotte Emlinger and Karine Latouche
